Blog: Insights and stories from Marquis

A major component of this site is a weblog that has had several lives, from its start as a featured MBA applicant/student blog on a separate site to its own presence on the Blogger system and now to its own domain as my personal website.

As you read through the entries, you'll see me go through three distinct phases in my life:

  • Pre-MBA experience: Experiences that one typically goes through before matriculating at business school
  • Life as an MBA student: Highs and lows of my time as a student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in much more detail than most would expect to see
  • Post-MBA life...and serving as a career/education/life coach to the masses: Responses to questions emailed to me by readers, where I use what I have learned through my own missteps and experiences to help others achieve their goals and avoid making the same missteps

Stanford/Palo Alto is getting kinda wild

I don't know if the news of what's been going on around here has gotten out, but it is getting a little off the hook in Palo Alto. In the past week or so, there have been a string of four armed robberies from pedestrians, including two of them on Stanford's campus....

Another weekend comes to a close

The time got away from me this weekend, so this will be the only entry that I right before the start of this coming week. it's been a busy weekend, but a relaxing one, which was welcome after the hectic nature of the past few weekends. As promised earlier, I've got to...

Wednesdays at the GSB are supposed to be easy…

Wednesdays are supposed to be our day off at the GSB, but I was dumb about how I made my schedule this quarter, so I've actually got a class from noon to 3pm every Wednesday. The class is called "Comparing institutional forms" and it is cross-listed between the GSB,...

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

C4C Weekend was a great success

Whew, I know I'm a few days late on this entry, but I've been having some major computer issues in the past few days. My adware scanning software froze up on me and had my computer all kinds of screwed up for a day or so. Then, when I fixed that, the computer started...

The start of C4C Weekend

Today is the start of the biggest social event that will take place at the GSB, the Challenge for Charity (C4C) Weekend. This event brings B-school students from UCLA, Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, University of Washington, and USC together for a weekend...

Just when I was having a bootleg day…

OK, so I just got home from getting my swole on and I must've pulled something because my back is hurting like crazy. That only added to the frustrations of the day, which include being bothered because:- I'm the Volunteer Coordinator for this weekend's C4C Weekend...

There’s a lot going on this weekend

Wow, I'm realizing that I've gotten pretty janky about putting new entries up here so far this quarter. I know that once per week is pretty consistent and all, but I really would like to be giving you guys something new to read a lot more often than that. From now on,...

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! I hope all of you are enjoying this holiday and taking some time to hang out (or at least chat with) your loved ones. As for myself, I'm sitting here trying to get work done in preparation for the upcoming week. It's so hard to stay focused nowadays...

One week down, nine to go…

What's up, y'all. I've reached the end of my first week of classes and, surprisingly, I'm completely relaxed instead of freaked out by the volume of work I've got ahead of me in the next nine weeks. Being able to see that light at the end of the tunnel goes a long way...
