Blog: Insights and stories from Marquis

A major component of this site is a weblog that has had several lives, from its start as a featured MBA applicant/student blog on a separate site to its own presence on the Blogger system and now to its own domain as my personal website.

As you read through the entries, you'll see me go through three distinct phases in my life:

  • Pre-MBA experience: Experiences that one typically goes through before matriculating at business school
  • Life as an MBA student: Highs and lows of my time as a student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in much more detail than most would expect to see
  • Post-MBA life...and serving as a career/education/life coach to the masses: Responses to questions emailed to me by readers, where I use what I have learned through my own missteps and experiences to help others achieve their goals and avoid making the same missteps

Playing catch-up…

I just realized that I'd forgotten to write an entry last Friday like I'd been doing all quarter, so I guess it's time to play catch-up.Last week was FANTASTIC in terms of having time to sit back and relax. I mentioned the way my classes went because of the holiday in...

Something to make you go "hmmmmm…"

I'm putting a quick post up here because I just checked out some slides that one of my classmates put up to get people's attentions about the plight of disadvantaged people around the globe. This classmate is a first year student here and, at age 23, he's one of the...

Holiday weekends are great!!!

My lunch appointment with a classmate got pushed back a little, so I've actually got some free time during the day to throw in a quick entry. I'm only halfway through my day of classes and I'm already set to go home and take a nap. Fridays are always tough with...

You’ve gotta love the social side of Bschool

I just realized that I am getting OLD!!! Instead of doing work this afternoon, I decided to play basketball with my housemates (a.k.a. "The House of Swole") and that was a big mistake. The past few times I played, my jumper was off and I felt like I was going to pass...

Super Bowl Sunday!!!

What's up, y'all. Here I am on another lazy sunday waiting for the Super Bowl to come on in a few hours. It's weird that the big game comes on at 3pm out here. It just doesn't seem right to watch the Super Bowl when there's still sun outside. Speaking of lazy sunday,...

You’ve got to love lazy weekends, right?

Ahh, yet another weekend is here and I've got another ton of work to get done before Monday. It's getting harder to be productive with every day that passes, but it's even scarier that the end of my MBA experience is coming up fast. In 5 months, I'll be finished here...

Since I’ve got a little time to kill

What's up, y'all. Surprisingly, I ended up with some free time before my 3pm class because I came to the GSB 2 hours early for a scheduled mock interview with a first-year student through our Career Mgmt Center. When i got here, i found out that they didn't even need...

End of Winter quarter – week 2

What's up, y'all. I'm writing you at the end of another long week. I could have sworn that this quarter would be a breeze compared to the previous four, but I (along with several of my classmates) are finding the Winter 2006 quarter to be tough. I'm not sure why, but,...

Welcome to 2006

Happy New Year, y’all. I hope that you had fun bringing in 2006 and are ready for a productive year. I ended up just hanging out at my mom’s house watching the ball drop on Dick Clark’s show and talking to my GF on the phone. I know that sounds boring but it was...
