Blog: Insights and stories from Marquis

A major component of this site is a weblog that has had several lives, from its start as a featured MBA applicant/student blog on a separate site to its own presence on the Blogger system and now to its own domain as my personal website.

As you read through the entries, you'll see me go through three distinct phases in my life:

  • Pre-MBA experience: Experiences that one typically goes through before matriculating at business school
  • Life as an MBA student: Highs and lows of my time as a student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in much more detail than most would expect to see
  • Post-MBA life...and serving as a career/education/life coach to the masses: Responses to questions emailed to me by readers, where I use what I have learned through my own missteps and experiences to help others achieve their goals and avoid making the same missteps

One more class down…

Whew! It's been a long week already, but I am steadily seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for this school year getting bigger and bigger...I can't wait until the summer break starts in a few weeks.Since yesterday at around noon, I am officially finished with my...

VEGAS BABY!!!

On Friday afternoon, I hit the friendly skies to go on a career trek to Las Vegas with the GSB Travel and Hospitality Club..and secretly wondered whether I would be able to behave myself down there. Just to provide a little background, Vegas is a place where I tend to...

One more final exam down

Whew, we just had a final exam for our Human Resources class this morning and I'm surprisingly refreshed as I look back on it. I found myself taking a different approach to this exam than I did for my other ones. For all of my other midterm/final exams, I would be all...

Catching up

Dang, it's getting harder and harder to find time to write entries in the past couple of weeks. The group meetings and assignments are taking up a bunch of time and I've also been having meetings with some of the GSB clubs and committees to go over their proposed...

Thank God it’s Friday

Dang, these weeks seem to get longer and longer as the summer gets closer. I'm ready to just finish up these courses and put what i've been learning to use in my internship.Yesterday, I had a final exam for our 2-unit Managerial Accounting and that joint was a BEAST!...

Wow!!!

"Wow!!!"...That's all I can say right now. Earlier this afternoon, we had Jack Welch (former CEO of GE) come speak at the GSB and I'm still in awe of that man. I know it sounds weird, but I considered that man to be a business visionary before I got here and, after...

My classmates are some truly remarkable folks

I just got back from one of the most enjoyable social outings that I've had since I got here and it wasn't even a big knock-down, drag-out event. It was simply a birthday dinner for one of my classmates...but, before you start laughing, let me explain more. I don't...

Time to catch up…

OK, I know I've been really bootleg about updating my blog recently, so I'm going to try to make up for it with a good amount of content in this entry. It's been tough to find time to write lately because the workload has been really heavy so far this quarter. Taking...

The job thing is finally finished

It looks like my summer job process is finally finished. I thought a lot about my options for the past week and made the choice to spend the summer working at Accenture in NYC. I sent off all my paper work to Accenture and informed Mcmaster-Carr of my decision. After...
