A major component of this site is a weblog that has had several lives, from its start as a featured MBA applicant/student blog on a separate site to its own presence on the Blogger system and now to its own domain as my personal website.
As you read through the entries, you'll see me go through three distinct phases in my life:
- Pre-MBA experience: Experiences that one typically goes through before matriculating at business school
- Life as an MBA student: Highs and lows of my time as a student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in much more detail than most would expect to see
- Post-MBA life...and serving as a career/education/life coach to the masses: Responses to questions emailed to me by readers, where I use what I have learned through my own missteps and experiences to help others achieve their goals and avoid making the same misstepsÂ
Time to cram for these exams…
Today is the start of what will be a long weekend. As I said in my last entry, I haven't been able to retain much info this quarter, so I'm going to be studying like a fiend to make sure I don't fall flat on my face. My first exam is for Strategy on Monday morning, so...
This has been a LONG week
As I sit here typing this entry, I'm on the verge of passing out from fatigue because this has to have been the longest week I've had since I've been here. Today was our last day of classes for the Winter quarter and it has taken every bit of energy I had to make it...
This weekend was fantastic
"Wow!"...that's all I can say about this weekend. For the past few weeks, I've felt pretty run down by the internship search and the academic rigor of this quarter and, to be honest, I'd started to wonder if I was really on point enough to hack it here and survive the...
The people have spoken…
...and they said that they weren't checkin' for The Kid. The results of the Student Association Presidential election came out today and my running mate and I didn't come out on top. The group who won were highly qualified , so I can't be salty about the result and...
It looks like I’m in a runoff for the Pres. race
The results of the Student Association elections were supposed to be published today, so I was surprised to see an email in my Inbox this morning saying that the presidential race hasn't been decided yet. According to the email, none of the four teams running for the...
The Infosys story…
Let me sart this one out by sending a shout out to Salas whose question inspired me to write up this story. (Salas, I had a long chat with your sister at a dinner party held by one of our classmates last night and she's a cool cat. I can't believe it took over 6...
Moving forward with job search
In the aftermath of the OCR process, I've declared myself the king of the second round knock-out. Here are my stats so far:-10 first round interviews-1 offer awarded after first round (with Infosys, but it looks like I won't be able to accept it)-5 second round...
I just got the call from McKinsey…
...and they dissed me too. It looks like I'm back at Square One in this recruiting process. The guy who called me was one of my interviewers and he said that they "strongly encourage" me to reapply again for a full-time position in the Fall. Overall, I was very...
I just got the call from BCG…
...and it wasn't good news. They decided to take a pass on me for this summer. The NYC recruiting coordinator gave me some good feedback, but some of the things that he stated as problems with my approach were things that I'd picked up as a result of feedback from...
Back from ATL
I just got in from ATL last night and I'm still tired. 4 cross country flights in 4 days is no joke! Unfortunately, I don't think I did very well on the McKinsey second rounds. I was there interviewing with 3 of my classmates and they didn't think they did really well...
