A major component of this site is a weblog that has had several lives, from its start as a featured MBA applicant/student blog on a separate site to its own presence on the Blogger system and now to its own domain as my personal website.
As you read through the entries, you'll see me go through three distinct phases in my life:
- Pre-MBA experience: Experiences that one typically goes through before matriculating at business school
- Life as an MBA student: Highs and lows of my time as a student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in much more detail than most would expect to see
- Post-MBA life...and serving as a career/education/life coach to the masses: Responses to questions emailed to me by readers, where I use what I have learned through my own missteps and experiences to help others achieve their goals and avoid making the same misstepsÂ
Time for the interview invites…
In my last entry, I mentioned that the summer internship recruiting process was gaining momentum. Well it's almost in full swing now because the interview invitations started going out yesterday and today for the companies for whom we dropped our resumes. The invites...
MLK Jr. Weekend
I'd like to start this post by giving props to Dr. martin Luther King Jr, without whom I likely would never have been given the opportunities to continue my education or even start it on the path that I've taken thus far. He sacrificed his life to make America a...
The internship search is on…
At long last, it's finally time to begin the daunting task of trying to find a summer internship. Unfortunately, our Career Management Center doesn't allow companies to start focusing on first years until the Winter quarter, so we're stuck trying to fit this...
The first day of Winter quarter classes
Well, I guess things are finally back to normal. I had my first day of Winter quarter courses and something tells me that this is going to be a busy quarter. In addition to the standard Core courses of Finance, Strategic Management, Marketing, and Operations, I've...
Hello…moving my blog over here
Hello, everyone. This is my first blog entry on the Blogspot.com server, so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Marquis and I'm a first year MBA student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. I originally started my blog in October 2003 on another site to...
Thank goodness for Winter break
Whew! I had no idea that I would enjoying hanging out and doing nothing so much, but this Winter break was SO necessary. I got back to VA last monday and I was so excited that I was literally grinning from ear to ear as I approached the runway at Washington's National...
It’s finally finished
At long last, I've finally made it to the end of the first quarter here at Stanford. It was a rough ride, but I was ecstatic to finish my last exam in Statistics on Thursday. All three of the finals that I took this week were monsters and I don't know how I got...
I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck
But at least, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I've hit my Finals period and had the first exam (in Econ) this morning from 8am to noon. I crammed like crazy last night, but my effort was futile because that test was a monster. The professor came in our...
Still grindin’…
It's only been a week since my last entry, but I feel like it's been much longer than that because I've been so busy. I think the best way to start this one off is to mention something that I forgot in my last entry. Last Friday (11/19/04), Stanford had its annual...
I’ve got a lot to update you guys on…
Wow, it seems like it's been ages since I had a chance to write a blog entry, but one of the good things about that is that it gives me a lot to write about. I've got a lot of work tonight, so I'll keep it concise, but it should give you guys a little insight into how...
